Stuart Dischell's latest book of poetry, Evenings & Avenues, depicts the longing mood of the end of the twentieth century. The seven "Evening" poems that punctuate the book are set in locations as diverse as Boston, Sarajevo, and London, in wax-works, shops, bedrooms, and, most commonly, a street, an avenue, or a boulevard. Dischell's poetry is impassioned, darkly funny at times, devastating at others, and always surprising. They breathe life into an universe that oscillates between potential and fate.
